A small typing problem deserves a clear answer

About Cool Symbols — Naveed Qadir

Meet Naveed Qadir, the software engineer behind Cool Symbols, and learn why this free symbol finder pairs copy-and-paste tools with practical keyboard guides.

Hi, I'm Naveed Qadir

I'm a software engineer working on web and mobile applications. I build useful solutions that make everyday tasks easier. Cool Symbols is my reference and toolkit for one of those tasks: finding the character you need when it is missing from your keyboard.

Why a symbol finder needs more than a grid of characters

Someone writing “25°C” on a laptop needs a degree sign, not an instruction that assumes a separate number pad. Someone preparing a checklist needs to know why ✓ stays text while ✅ may become a colored emoji. A person entering a name such as José needs the accent without interrupting the rest of their work.

These problems have specific technical causes. Microsoft's character-input documentation distinguishes numeric-keypad Alt codes from Word's Unicode conversion. A shortcut that works in Word therefore may not work in a browser. Keyboard layouts and font support add further differences. Even ° and º can look almost identical while being different characters.

I built Cool Symbols around a simple response to these difficulties: offer the actual character first, then explain the method, its requirements, and a fallback. You can finish the immediate task with copy and paste, and learn a shortcut if you need that character regularly.

What I take responsibility for

I maintain the tools and publish the guides under my name. Research and drafting may use AI assistance. That does not mean every shortcut has been physically tested on every device; platform and layout limitations are stated where relevant. The editorial policy explains sourcing and corrections.

The tools are free and do not require an account. Text composition happens in your browser. Advertising may support the site in future, but no paid placement determines the instructions or symbols included.

Help improve a specific answer

If a method fails, email coolsymbols2508@gmail.com with the guide URL, operating system, keyboard layout, application, and the result you saw. Those details are more useful than “it doesn't work” because they help identify the exact difference.
